Described by the Dutch firm as a technological breakthrough, the MTC15 is a fully-containerised heavy lifting device with a load moment of 15,000tm, that can be operated in any port capable of receiving containers. Mammoet says that the 600t-capacity device offers a load chart similar to a 1,200t mobile crawler crane.

The MTC15 can use local resources such as water or sand for its ballast. Which Mammoet said minimised the need for self-geared cargo vessels and eliminated the use of floating cranes. This ballast also meant that operators didn’t need to ship hundreds of tons of ballast to the ports with the MTC15.

The crane’s high capacity and outreach, allows load and offload heavy components, such as columns, vessels, reels, project cargo and engines without the need to reinforce the quay.

Patrick van der Meide, Mammoet’s senior commercial manager at Mammoet, said: "With the successful testing of the MTC15 in Westdorpe, The Netherlands, Mammoet has engineered a technological breakthrough for our customers. Due to popular demand, Mammoet is currently developing a skid track, making it possible to move the MTC15 parallel to the quay. Mammoet is open to discussing other, specialized alterations to the MTC15 with customers to meet their logistical supply chain requirements."
