Pedro Yaxon of Brooklyn, New York worked for Stillwell Materials Company, which constructs and transports pre-cast dry wells. He was crushed while wells were being stacked for delivery to a construction site.
Dry wells are underground storage facilities for water, typically for storm water run-off.
It is unclear how the accident happened, but a cable became wound round Yaxon’s neck moments after he had unhooked a well that was lowered on to the truck. He died at the scene.
Yaxon was supporting a wife and five children who live in his native Guatemala.
Stillwell Materials declined to comment. Police are treating the incident as an accident.
