The management team of specialist instrumentation company Strainstall, led by managing director Chris Caws, has completed a buyout from TT Group Plc.

Strainstall, based on the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England, has for more than 30 years specialised in load measurement and strain & stress determination, working in marine, transport, civil and industrial sectors as well as carrying out work for the UK Ministry of Defence. Recently the company has successfully diversified into the rail industry with safety and maintenance products for load monitoring on rail points and braking systems plus systems for bridge impact, rolling stock axle weighing and wheel flat spot detection.

The company will continue its operation from all four of its existing bases in Cowes on the Isle of Wight (load cell production; turnkey systems), Bath (stress analysis; structural monitoring), Aberdeen (offshore sales office), and Tonsberg in Norway (offshore monitoring systems; software development).

Caws said: “Strainstall is a people business offering a wide range of technical solutions in numerous diverse markets around the globe. The management buyout provides the company with the independence, freedom and incentive to further develop the business and take full advantage of the varied opportunities available.”
