Manitex has replaced its 25 US ton flagship M2592 boom truck with the new M2892 model, rated at 28 US ton (25.4t).

“This is a much stronger machine than before and yet it doesn’t weigh any more than its predecessor,” said Scott Rolston, vice president of product marketing.

The M2892 has a four-section telescopic boom, a two speed hoist and a DS-50 load moment indicator.

Manitex says that the M2892 has a 15% increase in capacity over the M2592, rising to 28% at 7m radius. The crane has a tip height of 31.4m (103ft) and comes with a five ton hook and ball and a three sheave quick reeve boom point as standard. It also features Manitex’s own mounting system where the subframe is mounted to the truck chassis by threaded rods and clamp plates.

Manitex had to change the minimum chassis requirements to accommodate improvements like the boom and a two speed planetary main hoist. The M2892 needed a heavier truck because of the higher strength outriggers and stabilizers it carries. Sales and marketing vice president Jay Shiffler expressed confidence that the M2892 would fill a gap in the market and “win in head to head competition over comparable class competitor machines”.
