And the Texas-based manufacturer has added another feature as an optional extra to this crane. As standard, a planetary gearbox continuously turns the crane upper in a free swing system. Now, the crane can be specced with a no-free-swing system for oilfield service and power grid applications.

“The no-free-swing option will also equip the operator with better control for coil tubing operations and specific power grid applications. The operator will have one less variable to deal with, and be able to focus more on the load and overall lift operations,” said Randy Robertson, director of sales and marketing for Manitex.

The 50 US ton (45t) capacity boom truck, which was recently CE-marked by the company, comes in two lengths of four-section main boom: 96ft (29.3m) in the 5096S and 110ft (33.5m) in the 50110S. The larger crane tops out at 164ft (50m) with fully-extended jib. With the two-section jib, it can lift 910 lb (412kg) to 150ft (45m) over the rear. Without it, it can lift 3,350 lbs (1.5t) to 100ft (30.5m). The four-axle 50110S measures 41ft (12.4m) long, 13ft (4m) high and 7ft (2.2m) wide and weighs 39,000 lbs (17.6t) plus 2,000 lb (1t) jib.
