Simulation software is used by Manitowoc engineers in the feasibility phase of product design to optimise proposed concepts. They then use Ansys system to evaluate critical sub-assemblies for fatigue and static resistance against severe loads. Engineers also use Ansys simulation to analyze stress and force of welded connections, as well as to measure the integrity of larger crane structures and components such as booms, chassis, turntables and hydraulic cylinders.
Manitowoc has used Ansys systems for more than 20 years. However, it recently chose to use the software as standard across plants, replacing a mix of in-house and third party systems.
