A luffing jib is now available for Manitowoc’s 136t (150 US ton) capacity 555 lattice boom crawler crane. The 41t (45 US ton) jib allows the crane to now reach a maximum of 100.6m (330ft). Adding an 18.2 m (60ft) fixed jib gives a total extension of 118.8m (390ft) and a maximum working radius of 74.6m (245ft).
The insert and luffing top design oif the new jib are the same as on the Manitowoc 777 and 888, thus continuinbg Manitowoc’s policy of helping its customers get the most out of their assets.
The first 555 with luffing jib out of Manitowoc’s plant is owned by Groves Equipment, which has leased the crane to International Maintenance Company, which is using it at a BASF plant on the Texas Gulf Coast to help service a giant steam cracker. The versatile crane is able to position itself close to the cracker, allowing tube burners and valves to be easily changed.
