Dan Mardian, president of Marco Crane and sister company Mardian Equipment, both based in Phoenix, Arizona, US said the GMK7550’s 550 USt (450t) capacity and impressive transportability were important features for his business.
“Because we have offices in several states, we need a crane that meets the exacting road requirements of each state. After studying the market, we decided that the GMK7550 was the crane for us,” he said. “Roading restrictions for cranes, especially large ones like this seven-axle unit, can be very demanding. However, the GMK7550 was the ideal choice as its weight-per-axle ratio was passable here in Arizona and also in the neighboring state of California – which has some of the most stringent roading laws in the country – and which is also home to one of our main offices.”
Manitowoc Crane Group dealer H&E Equipment sold the GMK7550 to Marco Crane through its Phoenix branch.
Cary Burr, sales representative at H&E Equipment, explained that the GMK7550’s flexibility in transport made it an ideal choice for western US companies.
“The GMK7550 is very well suited for this part of the US, where jobs and distances both tend to be at the larger end of the scale,” he said.
The GMK7550 offers a five-section, 197 ft (60 m) main boom, with MEGAFORM shaping and TWIN-LOCK boom-pinning system. It can also be configured with a 230 ft (73 m) boom extension, allowing a maximum tip height of 430 ft (131 m)
Marco Crane has a large number of Grove all-terrain cranes in its fleet, including models GMK5120B (GMK5100 outside the US), GMK5240 (GMK5200 outside the US) and several others including the GMK7550.
The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006 and today has four facilities, two in Arizona (Phoenix and Tucson), one in Las Vegas, Nevada and one in Lakeside, California. The firm plans to purchase Grove’s patented Mega Wing-Lift attachment for the GMK7550 in the near future.
