Marsh Plant Hire in the UK was recently commissioned by the COPP memorial fund to erect a memorial for WWII heros on Hayling Island, UK.

The memorial is dedicated to the UK Combined Operations Pilotage Parties (COPP) that used canoes to do reconnaissance work on French and Italian beaches, laying the ground for D-Day.

The 15 COPP commandos were active between 1943-1944 and suffered 5 casualties on a mission to Malta.

Marsh Plant Hire brought the 12ft long granite stone from a quarry in Cornwall on an 8x8 vehicle provided by Commando Headquarters and Support Squadron Royal Engineers.

Once the convoy reached the seashore, the firm used a Faun ATF90G to move the stone upright and onto a concrete plinth.

The monument is scheduled to be dedicated by Countess Mountbatten of Burma CBE on 27th September, 2012.
