Maxim Crane Works, the USA’s largest crane rental company, has officially unveiled its new centralised engineering department.
The 10-person engineering team has been established to help Maxim to serve its clients at every stage of a project, from planning to completion.
“We are increasingly becoming a one-stop-shop for all of our clients needs,” said Adam Cote, the new manager of engineering who heads the team.
Maxim previously used draftsmen distributed at various offices, working independently. Now they are backed up by a centralised team in Maxim’s headquarters in Pittsburgh that coordinates, oversees and supplements the various branch draftsmen. This team is responsible for all lift planning created nationally.
At the heart of the engineering department is a crane database and computer network that allows Maxim staff to draw from a standardised pool of information and methods. Using software such as Autocad 2004, Cranimation, Liccon, Solid Works 2004, and Compu-Crane, engineers can plan the most complex lifting jobs in either two dimensional drawings or three dimensional models, saving time for the clients and maximising safety, the company says.
Meanwhile, Maxim is also training its sales staff in the use of Compu-Crane lift-planning software to enable them to provide precise project assessment when advising clients.
