French heavy lifting company Mediaco Heavy Lift has used an Enerpac SL200 hydraulic gantry system to remove a large 13-metre-long industrial lathe from a factory in La Buffiere, France. The compact gantry system lifted and lowered the lathe and turntable onto a flatbed truck in a single operation, within the limited space available.

For the first part of the move, the Enerpac gantry lifted the 46-tonne, 13-metre-long, 2.2-metre-wide and 2.7-metre-high lathe beam and moved it to the truck’s loading point. While keeping the lathe suspended above the slide rails, the rails were separated, allowing the flatbed truck to back into the free space and lower the lathe. The process was repeated for the lathe’s turntable, weighing 41 tonnes, with a diameter of 5.9 m and a height of 0.7 m.

Having already installed the lathe, Mediaco was familiar with the space constraints in the factory. The Enerpac gantry system provided them with the lifting capacity they needed in the available space, as well as the ability to move technically advanced manufacturing equipment with care and precision.

The project was carried out by Jean-Baptiste Rault, site manager at Mediaco Heavy Lift, with the assistance of operator Tom Grissault. ‘The Enerpac SL200 is ideal for this type of project thanks to the gantry’s small footprint,’ explains Mr Rault. ‘It offers us a highly efficient alternative for projects where the use of a crane is not practical.’

Enerpac Super Lift gantry

The Enerpac SL200 Super Lift gantry is designed for lifting applications up to 2000 kN. The SL200 gantry is equipped as standard with Enerpac Intellilift wireless controls, which provide users with a safe and reliable way to operate the gantry. In addition, each gantry leg is equipped with a self-contained hydraulic system, which eliminates trip hazards by removing the need for hose connections and simplifies equipment setup.
