The extended wheelbase Unimog U500 is equipped with a Palfinger PK10501 10 tonne/metre crane and a rear-mounted earth auger with Autoguide 50PXV. Front and rear strengthened bolsters allow a range of poles and other equipment to be carried.

The package has been developed for a wide range of construction operations, with a particular target being the energy sector, where the Unimog’s on road speeds and all terrain ability allows the vehicle, plus men and their equipment, to access remote working sites on all types of terrain, according to the company.

Mark Hopkins, Director of Mercedes-Benz Unimog UK, says: “This is the ideal pole erection package. All tools, including the Palfinger crane and the earth auger, are powered direct from the Mercedes-Benz diesel engine via Power Take-Off points, and the inherent payload allows poles and other items to be carried safely.”

The Mercedes-Benz Central Tyre Inflation system – where tyre pressures can be lowered and raised from within the cab – prevents ground damage when crossing agricultural land and other sensitive areas.
