The Maxcharge alternator charge controller from Merlin Equipment is designed to solve electrical problems on plant and industrial vehicles. Merlin says that the Maxcharge turns the alternator into a three-stage battery charger, eliminating the need for the alternator regulator to run and charge functions like headlamps, stereos and heating.
Merlin claims that three-stage battery charging is recognised as the quickest and best way of recharging batteries. The Maxcharge unit also guards against belt wear, alternator damage and battery overcharging. Merlin says that the Maxcharge will not begin working for 45 seconds after the engine has turned over to allow the engine to lubricate properly first. It has also fitted the Maxcharge with a temperature sensor that cuts output by 50% if the unit starts to overheat.
