A Danish brand of mobile truck-mounted tower cranes, already CE-marked and ready for production, is up for sale, writes Kurt Thomsen.

The Danish manufacturer of construction equipment Hydrema started production of the Hydrostar 35 mobile tower crane 12 years ago. A number were manufactured and sold around Europe and are said to be still running well.

The machine was based on a Tatra or Ginaf four-axle carrier. The crane pack was produced by Hydrema and designed by Fridtjof Krøll after he had left Krøll Cranes. Certain patents remain valid today.

Hydrema has since focused on its core business and has four crane packs, a large quantity of components and a second-hand Hydrostar crane standing in its production facilities in Denmark.

These are for sale for anyone who would like to start production of a mobile tower crane. Hydrostar mobile tower cranes would be competitively priced, at around E320,000 ($290,000) or a little more than that if a Ginaf carrier was used.

The crane itself erects within 15 minutes and is simple in its design. The crane has a PLC erecting programme and a separate smaller diesel engine for crane erection and operation. All of the functions for erecting the crane are remotely controlled.

Hydrema managing director Jan Jensen said he would be pleased to help any buyer interested in this design willing to take on established suppliers such as Spierings and Liebherr.
