The Strategic Forum for Construction Health and Safety Group agreed that the industry needs to do seven things in the short term:

  • Ensure site-specific inductions for tower crane personnel

  • ï„·Review the competency of everyone

    • ï„·

  • Ensure “robust and thorough” examination regimes

    • ï„·

  • Improve conditions for workers

    • ï„·

  • Ensure that tower crane operator concerns can be raised without risk of retribution

    • ï„·

  • Share incident and near-miss information

    • ï„·

  • Improve communication to
    the public

The meeting included representatives from manufacturers (Potain), crane owners and contractors (City Lifting, Vertical Transportation, Kier Plant, HTC Plant, Bovis Lend Lease, Sir Robert McAlpine, McCarthy and Stone, Galliford Try, Barratt Developments), insurers Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, Allianz Engineering, HSB Houghton and ConstructionSkills.
