A motorist in New Zealand was killed last month when a heavy bolt flew from a crane being transported by a truck, the New Zealand Press Association has reported.

Police said the 43-year-old man was killed instantly when the bolt hit his car. A 13-year-old girl sitting in the back of the car was also hit by the bolt and sustained serious head injuries.

The two vehicles were passing each other when the accident happened, police said. The truck driver stopped after the car veered off the road and down a slight bank.

Police found a heavy bolt in the back of the dead man’s car.
