Konecranes VLC Corporation has taken a E75m ($65m) contract to supply a goliath gantry crane and 14 Konecranes-Munckloader shipboard gantry cranes to the Polish shipyard Stocznia Gdynia.

The shipyard is building seven open-hatch bulk carriers for US-based Westwood Shipping Lines and will fit two Munckloaders to each. The 40t cranes will be delivered in phases between early 2002 and late 2003.

The goliath will lift 1,000t, span 153m and and have a lifting height of 75m. It will enhance the shipyard’s production capacity and is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2001.

Konecranes VLC has also taken an order for three Munckloader cranes from International Marine Carriers, which is acting as manager for the US Maritime Administration. This order is worth more than $12m and delivery is scheduled for the end of next year.

Originally designed by Munck of Norway, the Munckloader entered Konecranes’ product range in 1996.

Meanwhile, also in Poland, KCI Konecranes has acquired Cranex, a crane maintenance company based in Gdansk. Cranex was established in 1988 and has 20 employees.
