In a statement, the company said the decision to close the line “is simply a management decision related to market positioning of the National Crane brand.”
It added that no new orders will be accepted, but that it will build and deliver existing orders.
Service and support for the field population of articulating boom trucks will continue indefinitely through Manitowoc Crane Care.
In a 1989 brochure, the articulating crane range stretched to six models from 19tm (the N-135) down to 7.6tm (the N-55).
Boom trucks are probably one of the sectors most at risk from the US construction slowdown because of their popularity in residential housebuilding.
