The Woelfel Best Mechanical Engineering Achievement Award recognises a product, device or system displayed at the annual Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, which ‘best reflects innovation and/or practical use of mechanical engineering in solving problems, improving design or maximising performance’. Relevant criteria include novelty, impact on industry, health and safety, state of development and presentation.

The Nautilus Hooks range is designed to eliminate pinch and trap injuries associated with traditional latch-lock lifting hooks.

Nautilus Rigging managing director Bill Toon, said: “We are delighted to have won this recognition, which further confirms our conviction that Nautilus Rigging has created the next generation of lifting hooks.

“The judges recognised our design as simple but innovative, with a broad and global application both offshore and onshore.

“They also told us that we had achieved a new level of safety with the Nautilus range.”

Nautilus Hooks were launched at Offshore Europe in Aberdeen last September, with three models currently available. These are available in swivel top, eye and clevis top versions, with 4t, 8t and 12t SWL capacities.

The final Nautilus Hooks range will comprise seven sizes, with 16t and 20t versions due for release in September, and 6t and 10t versions to be launched in November.

In addition, Nautilus Hooks have secured DNV certification and have a number of international patents pending.
