But the manufacturer has plans to spend more than EUR 70m on other improvments, which are due to be finished in about two years.
It is building a new two-storey manufacturing hall including robot technology for the manufacturing of boom sections. In addition a new parking garage is planned giving space for more than 1000 vehicles. With these investments the works area is further extended by 50,000 sq m to a total of 241,000 sq m.
The robot manufacturing hall will focus on boom sections, boom heads and boom feet. We expect to increase the existing number of boom sections that are manufactured by Liebherr Nenzing by approximately 200%, reducing the amount of boom units outsourced to partners.
“The real benefit of this technology is that now we can realize a “just in time” manufacturing of boom sections,” said head of marketing Wolfgang Pfister.
“The limiting factor is not material costs, the limiting factor is a capacity question. Due to natural restrictions we have from components, and capacity of manufacturing, we have long delivery times,” Pfister said, adding that the expansions should improve the situation.
