With a maximum lifting capacity of 12t when double reeved (6t single-reeved) Wolffkran’s Wolff 166 B sits between the firm’s more traditional luffers the 6t Wolff 100 B and the 16t Wolff 224 B.
Thanks to the flat-top style design and the reduced weight, resultant from the lack of luffing gear, Wolffkran says this crane is particularly easy to manoeuvre and rig.
Available with jib lengths of between 25m and 55m in 5m increments, the Wolff 166 B’s jib can be raised until it is almost vertical, making the crane useful for tight sites and sites with strict over-sailing rules.
The counterweight is fixed to the counter-jib by a support tube held within a frame at its end, which is bolted onto the crane’s structure. Wolffkran says that the counterweight support frame’s form also lends itself to more compact designs when using steel weights, thanks to the fact that it bolts onto the counter-jib.
Emphasising the new crane’s capabilities, Wolffkran project manager Jochen Ziegler explains: "In the model currently in highest demand with a jib length of 50m the 166 B achieves a maximum load of 2.8 t in single-reeved operation. In an industry comparison that amounts to a best performance."
As standard, the Wolff 166 B is fitted with a 60kW hoist winch, enabling a hook path of 500m in single-reeved operation. In addition, the inclusion of load-sensing technology on the hydraulic cylinder that luffs the jib means that its luffing speed can be carefully adjusted in accordance with the load. This allows the crane to achieve a luffing time of one minute 30 seconds with its 22kW motor.
Wolffkran project manager Gerd Tiedtke said: "Our goal was to offer the customer a broader bandwidth while improving flexibility and energy balance. Galvanized platforms and railings ensure safe assembly and accessibility of all relevant crane parts.
"In addition, the 166 B is the first WOLFF to be equipped with the new cabin which has been fully optimised in terms of working comfort and safety."
The company will officially unveil the prototype on 11th July.
