Smits Spreader Systems BV has been taken over by VDL Groep BV. The two Dutch companies finalised the deal on 21 December.
Smits Spreader Systems has more than 30 years experience in developing, manufacturing, supplying, installing and servicing a range of container and trailer handling equipment. Its spreaders are used worldwide on ship-to-shore cranes, gantry cranes, mobile harbour cranes, forklift trucks and reach stackers.
VDL Groep comprises more than 60 companies in 14 countries and more than 4,700 employees. Its core business the design and production of metal and plastic components, as well as finished products.
Smits will be merged with the VDL Containersystemen subsidiary, which producers systems for loading and unloading containers onto/off lorries. Although the two companies operate in different markets, there are many common factors in the fields of development, manufacturing and purchasing. During the course of the year, Smits will relocate from Someren to VDL Containersystemen’s newly built premises at Hapert in the Netherlands.
