A new series of the Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been launched by DaimlerChrysler.
The U300 and U400 models – ranging from 7.5t to 12.5t GVW– are out now. The new series will be completed by the six-cylinder, 15.5t GVW U500 model later this year. The new series will gradually replace current models but production of some existing models is to be continued for the foreseeable future.
The new design has a flat parallel chassis instead of a drop frame so no separate subframe is needed. This makes it easier and cheaper to mount equipment such as cranes and boom lifts.
