Japanese company NKK has been awarded a ¥975m ($8m) contract by Schimizu Port Authority for a new container crane. To be installed at the port in Shizuoka Prefecture, south of Tokyo, the rated load will be 45t and the hoisting capacity 50t.
The design features a computerised anti-swing control system to enable rapid hoisting, lowering and trolley movement, thereby reducing handling time.
The system works by using a charged couple device camera to detect the container’s swing angle. By tracking these signals and controlling the travel motors to obtain the optimum swing angle, NKK claims it can achieve a swing of less than 100mm five seconds after trolley stoppage.
