Firefighters and paramedics joined together to save the crane driver who collapsed as he worked on the construction of a new shopping complex.
Reports said that for almost an hour emergency workers could be seen climbing up and down the crane to treat the man while he remained stuck in the cab as equipment was brought in to winch him to safety.
A spokewoman for Mersey Regional Ambulance Service told the Echo that the man had complained of stomach pains, dizziness and vomiting and fell unconscious for a short time.
