Ormig 1

Guido Testore founded Ormig in Ovada, Italy in 1949, and its development has followed that of Italy’s industrial boom. Initial demand in the 1950s for machinery to help construct buildings, factories and infrastructure projects saw Ormig launch a slewing lattice boom crane to support these developments.

During the 1960s, Ormig introduced hydraulic telescopic cranes; in the 1970s, it developed all terrain cranes, to work on- and off-road; an increase in container handling in the 1980s saw Ormig introduce a patented reachstacker with two booms; and in the 1990s, the company moved into mobile harbour cranes, offering capacities of 48t at 40m reach for loading and unloading containers and bulk cargo. The new millennium saw Ormig develop truck-mounted cranes, providing customers with traveling capabilities on the road without the need for permits; and electric cranes, for indoor applications and free-on-wheels capacity, in response to environmental pressures.

Today, still run by the Testore family, Ormig’s product range includes industrial pick and carry cranes, all terrain cranes, truck-mounted cranes and reachstackers. It has spent the last decade rebuilding its 100,000 sq m Ovada factory as a high tech manufacturing facility, which it hopes will keep it at the forefront of the Italian crane market in the future.
