KNUCKLE boom loader cranes that can unfold beyond 180° to 195° have been developed by Austrian manufacturer Palfinger. In German it is called an ’overstretching’ knuckle boom.

The new system is a development of the established two link system, Palfinger Power Link, which uses links on the first two boom sections to increase power for high lifts. It is available as standard on the models PK 32002, PK 36002, PK 40002 and PK 44002, which range from 32tm to 44tm class.

A knuckle boom that can be angled upwards was developed for working on electrified railway lines and has been available on the market as standard from Palfinger Railway since 1994.

Palfinger says that the ‘overstretching’ crane offers enhanced mobility in confined spaces and the ability to extend through low window and door openings. In operation with a winch loads can be brought closer to the crane column.
