Austrian company Palfinger has added the PFM 1200 to its marine crane range to meet rising demand from service-vessel and workboat operators, particularly in the aquaculture sector.
The company stated that the first unit will be delivered in September to Bergen Hydraulic for use on Frøy Akvaressurs’s service vessel “Frøy Fighter”.
The development of the PFM 1200 comes amid a trend towards larger vessels, which require cranes with greater outreach and lifting capacity, while maintaining a lower overall weight and compatibility with existing mounting points.
According to Palfinger, the new crane is designed to meet these operational requirements.
The PFM 1200, which features Palfinger’s patented P-profile, offers a maximum outreach of more than 26m.
On board the “Frøy Fighter”, it will replace an older crane, extending operational reach by 4.8m and reducing equipment weight.
At its furthest outreach, the crane provides a lifting capacity of 1,820kg in winch mode. The PFM 1200’s high-speed extension system supports short operating cycles.
In the configuration specified for the “Frøy Fighter”, the crane uses the same mounting bolt pattern as the PK 150002 M, allowing installation without significant changes to the vessel’s structure.
The company’s marine crane range currently includes models such as the PFM 1500, PFM 3500, PFM 2500, PFM 2100, and PFM 4500.
The PFM 1200 joins upcoming models PFM 3700 and PFM 4800, with the intention of providing customised crane combinations for various vessel types and applications.
Palfinger VP sales and service marine and special solutions Klaus Schreiber said: “The requirements for service vessels and workboats are continuously evolving.
“With the PFM 1200, we are closing a gap in our portfolio and providing customers with exactly the combination of outreach, lifting performance, and durability they need today.”
Palfinger indicated that expansion of its marine crane portfolio is part of its wider Strategy 2030+ initiative.
In July 2026, Palfinger secured a contract to supply 64 PF 160-5m davit cranes to Smulders for use at ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm.
