Palfinger will deliver one knuckleboom and one pipe handling crane for the rig which will be operated by Archer on the Statoil Heimdal platform.
The two offshore cranes being supplied by Palfinger Marine are the PK 23500 M knuckleboom crane and a PKM 700 T pipe handling crane. Both units have been developed and finally designed according to the specific requirements and standards by the engineering departments of Palfinger Marine and Streicher, the German firm who have the contract to build the rigs.
The PK 23500 M knuckleboom crane is equipped with an automatically levelled access basket for man-riding applications and can be used with a hook or winch. For safety reasons, various movement sequences of the PKM 700 T pipe handling crane are partially automated with an anti-collision system from Streicher also integrated.
The cranes will be assembled in Maribor, Slovenia, and will be delivered by the first quarter of 2014.
