The hexagonal tubes manufactured at the plant will be used for extension booms and outer booms on Palfinger’s loader cranes. The new plant is highly automated. It comprises the latest 4 KW laser cutting machines, a new edging machine, new longitudinal welding and alignment machinery and a new robotic welding system. An edge-angle correction system and automatic alignment of the sections increases the sectional accuracy of the parts.

The new longitudinal welding system with an optimal clamping concept and optical locking of the welding gap guarantees penetration welding and therefore the best possible welding quality. The new small parts edging machine with edge-angle correction system, which has improved suitability for use with robots, increases the precision of small parts.

Palfinger said that it aims to raise production capacity at Lengau by 40%, by making use of increased automation. New production, assembly, testing, logistics and infrastructure installations will increase the area of the Lengau site by about a third. The company said, “The latest technologies will support the comprehensive reorganisation of the divisions, while optimised material flows and a separate logistics centre for the site will ensure efficient internal and external movements of equipment and materials.”
