PARTEK, FINNISH manufacturer of a wide range of materials handling equipment, is launching an online market place for used machinery in January.

Although Partek is initiating the project, it intends that other manufacturers will buy in to the company, which is called Mascus.

“Our aim is to decrease our shareholding to less than half,” said Kari Heinistö, Partek’s chief financial officer and a director of Mascus.

“We want to act as a bridgehead for the major manufacturers in developing a common market place,” said Heinistö.

Mascus will begin by offering agricultural and earthmoving machinery. The product range will be extended later to include lifting and load handling equipment.

Mascus is projected to make profits in 2003 and in due course a stock market flotation would be considered, Heinistö said.
