SCENES OF SED: Paul Gould won this year’s SED/Ainscough Crane Operator Challenge at the SED equipment show last month. Gould (pictured above with Challenge co-sponsor Martin Ainscough) is managing director of Gould Contract Lifting.
As previewed in last month’s issue, there was a strong turnout from the crane industry at the show with various cranes getting their UK premiere from Grove, Liebherr, Mannesmann Dematic and Kato (UK) among others. At the show Grove handed over the first GMK 5100 to be sold in the UK to Bryn Thomas Crane Hire. According to Bryn Thomas (pictured above right), the GMK 5100 has “without a shadow of a doubt the best lifting chart” of all the new generation of five-axle 100 tonners. Not to be outdone, Liebherr sold two LTM 1100/2s at the show and shook hands on a further six mobile and five tower cranes.
The show, which drew 16,000 visitors over the three days, also saw the launch of an online crane hire facility (www.e4lift.com) by Ainscough Group.
“We had a fantastic response to the launch and have already established clients who are now hiring online,” said managing director Martin Ainscough.
