A locomotive maintenance facility in Antwerp, belonging to Belgian state railway SNCB, is being equipped with nine lifting systems by Pfaff-silberblau under a contract worth $700,000.
One installation incorporates 12 screw jacks and the other eight have four screw jacks each. They are used to service and repair locomotives weighing up to 100t. The entire installation must be capable of operating in a vehicle washing plant and so must be corrosion resistant.
The total of 44 jacks, each more than 5m high and rated at 25t capacity, have a 2.75m usable lifting range at a rate of 240mm/min. They are equipped with electrically powered hydraulically driven rail wheels. The height of the load bearing console varies from 900mm to 3.65m.
Pfaff’s 10 week project is scheduled for completion this month.
