Cranes Today’s online poll put his suggestion to you, our readers, and asked: “Should trainee tower crane operators work as an apprentice to more experienced drivers? If so, for how long?” Almost nine out of ten of you agreed that an apprenticeship scheme was a good idea, with 60% saying that you thought apprenticeships should last for six months.
This month, our online poll will give you the chance to join in the debate on proof load testing, as covered in our report on a meeting of the UK Construction Plant-hire Association’s Tower Crane Interest Group, on page 23. The poll asks: “For years, UK tower crane companies have tested newly-erected tower cranes with a proof load of 125% their rated capacity before they are used. Few other countries follow this practice. What do you think—–_– is this a good idea?”
