Evidence of another dip in the fortunes of Japanese crane manufacturers has come with the half-yearly results reported by Tadano, Kato and Maeda.
Tadano has reported group sales of ¥44.40bn ($361m) for the six months to 30 September 2001, a slight decline from the ¥44.98bn it took in the same period last year. Operating profit for the half-year was down 60%, however, to ¥322m ($2.6m).
Kato Works’ parent company reported half-year sales down 4.1% to ¥16.55bn ($135m). Operating profit was down 71.5% to ¥285m ($2.3m).
Maeda Seisakusho reported group sales down 5.6% to ¥17.85bn ($145m) for the six months to 30 September, on which it made an operating loss of ¥255m ($2.1m). In the previous year the group made a first half operating loss of ¥487m ($4.0m).
