The Mersey Docks & Harbour Company in the UK has appointed Carrylift, a materials handling group with its roots in lift truck distribution, to manage all the lifting and materials handling equipment fleet at the Port of Liverpool.
The three year contract involves the management of 25 straddle carriers, five Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes, three Liebherr harbour mobile cranes, quayside cranes, gantry cranes, plus other port equipment on the Mersey Docks estate. Carrylift is also contracted to maintain eight Mafi tractor units and ancillary equipment at Seaforth Container Terminal and other nearby docks. Carrylift has moved into existing workshops at Seaforth and has 58 engineers and a dedicated management team located on site to support the contract.
To help track and manage the equipment on site, Carrylift is working with its client to develop an asset management software package called Mainsaver. The software provides reports on truck downtime, job progress, examines service records and is used as a reporting tool for overall fleet management.
Carrylift’s relationship with the Port of Liverpool began when it supplied a fleet of Mafi tractors. Carrylift also distributes Nissan forklift trucks, warehousing equipment and other lifting machinery. It operates through a network of seven regional centres in the north and northwest of England and in Scotland.
