A 50t Potain 605 tower crane was used for steel erection during the construction of gaming technology and services company GTECH Holding Corporation’s new headquarters at Francis Street and Memorial Boulevard in Providence, Rhode Island, US.

The electric crane is owned by Capco Steel, which operated it for building contractor the Gilbane Building Company. It had a 200m tower and 197m jib, and was used to lift up to 50t at the base and up to 10t fully extended.

The job is said to have gone smoothly despite it being the first construction involving a tower crane in Providence for 10 years. The last tower crane was used to build a concrete structure during the construction of the Westin Hotel.

There has previously been no demand for tower cranes in the city because of the lack of high-rise construction.
