BRITISH crawler crane manufacturer RB Cranes has won its first order since being rescued from receivership by Langley Holdings in December 2000.
Prefabricated bridging manufacturer Mabey & Johnson has ordered four of RB’s CH40 hydraulic crawler cranes for use on a UK-government-assisted road building project in Papua New Guinea. The cranes will work in remote areas of jungle, driving steel H-piles for bridge abutments and piers, enabling Mabey & Johnson’s prefabricated bridges to cross rivers and other obstacles in Papua New Guinea’s equatorial forests.
The 40t-rated cranes have a reach of 48m and are fitted with relay logic rather than electronics to make operation easier and improve reliability in the heavy rainfall of the region.
The contract covers the supply of the four cranes and a spare parts package. Langley said that the cranes were being built at its manufacturing facility in Retford, where it fabricates vessels and components for the energy sector. Delivery of the first two cranes is due this month, with the other two heading for Papua New Guinea next month.
