Having taken 10 years to sell the first 500 of its ContChamp reachstackers, Kalmar of Sweden has sold its second 500 in just two years, such has been the recent surge in customer approval of the reachstacker concept.
The ContChamp reachstacker was introduced by Kalmar in 1985 as an alternative to its container handling fork lift trucks. By 1995, 500 were sold.
Last November the 1,000th ContChamp, DRD450-60C5X third generation model, entered service at P&O North Sea Ferries’ Rotterdam terminal.
Orders since then include its largest contract in Russia, where it is supplying eight ContChamp reachstackers to the Ministry of Rail which will use them at the Moscow and St Petersburg rail terminals.
