Two container cranes in the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr are being renovated so that they can handle all the material that needs to be imported for the reconstruction of southern Iraq.

Main contractor for the project is Naran Marine Services, a Dubai based subsidiary of an Iraqi industrial group. Naram has subcontracted the electrical work, including driveline and controls, to Elma of the Netherlands.

The cranes were built in the 1980s by Nelcon, which is now part of Kalmar.
