BELGIAN mobile crane rental company Laroy N.V. completed on 8 November an uninterrupted period of 1,000 days without a work accident. Branch manager Peter Libert claimed this as a unique event in the crane hiring business, a sector that he said has a bad reputation when it comes to safety.
Laroy, established in 1948 and owned by the Sarens group, attributed its record to ‘a consistent and proactive safety management programme’. All crane operators have a lifting certificate and a VVA1 safety certificate. The average age of cranes in the company’s 30-strong fleet is only 3.6 years and there is high operational safety and a low breakdown rate, according to Libert.
