Sales of Mannesmann Dematic mobile cranes rose 32% in 1997, according to accounts filed by its parent company, the German engineering and telecommunications conglomerate Mannesmann.
Mobile crane sales helped the whole Dematic division, which includes Systems Engineering and other business units, to realise income from orders rise 26% in 1997 to DM3,883m ($2,157m ), up from DM3,086m ($1,714m) in 1996.
Of the 1997 orders received at Dematic, DM1,846m was for long term projects (up 33% on 1996) and DM2,037m was for serial manufacture (up 20%).
With more than 80% of Dematic’s business now outside Germany, a 25% increase on 1996, the company said that it was “consistently pursuing its corporate globalisation goals. It has also appointed an American, Pete Metros to the board of Dematic, with effect from 1 February, as head of the Systems Division as successor to Wolfgang Vogl, who has taken on other duties within the Mannesmann group.
