Wire rope not fully lubricated has only 30% of the life of a fully lubricated rope, especially when used in intense heat environments such as electric furnace shops, according to wire rope manufacturer Bridon. A new wire rope lubricant for use in extremely high temperature environments such as charging cranes in steel mill melt shops, has been formulated to withstand these conditions and to save the end user time and money.
Called Permalube, it is available on Bridon’s Endurance Dyform 8 and some Blue Strand 6 ropes, but it is expected to eventually become the company’s standard for ‘no-melt’ applications.
