CEO Quentin van Breda says, “We have sold various cranes in the MD485 category, but the MD1100 is the largest tower crane purchased in the firm’s 26 year history and will be the largest tower crane in Africa to date.”

The MD1100 comes with an 8m by 8m base mounted on rail bogeys. It will reach a freestanding height of 86.7m with 80m jib. Max load is 40t. The smaller MD485 has a 40m jib and max pick of 25t. It will be rail travelled on a special 13m x 5m base to suit the structure under construction.

The cranes will be shipped from France and will take approximately 30 days to erect and commission once they have arrived on site. The MD1100 will be on site mid March 2009 and the MD485 in January 2009. SA French will provide the service crews to erect and commission the cranes.
