Twelve companies were represented in a meeting today in Dubai during which the organisation named itself the Crane Safety Forum.

The group has pledged to meet at least every six weeks.

Shata Mahdiyone was elected the first chairman at the meeting, which also voted on byelaws. The chairman position would be held on a rotating basis for a period of at least six months.

The association agreed that its aim was to promote, encourage, foster and protect the crane and lifting industry and trade, Mahdiyone told Cranes Today.

The group will also encourage a high standard of workmanship in maintenance, operations, training, in members’ fleets and in their workforces, he said.

It will also collect and share information, data and statistics amongst the members relevant to safety operations and training.

Those interested in joining the association should email Cranes Today, and we will forward on these leads. The association’s reach is not limited to the Middle East.

Mahdiyone, with crane specialist Paul King of BIT Logistik, first suggested the forum should be set up at the Middle East Cranes conference in Dubai in February, organised by Cranes Today’s parent company. The next Middle East Cranes conference is scheduled for January 30-31.
