Sany Heavy Industry president Xiang Wenbo has rejected a Manitowoc claim of patent infringement, saying the company is proud of its industry leading crane designs. Already in another US court dispute with President Barack Obama, Xiang showed little sign of backing down in this case.

In a statement, published after news broke of Manitowoc's US International Trade Commission complaint and accompanying federal lawsuit, Xiang said, "Sany is proud of its industry-leading crane designs and the heavy equipment products and solutions we provide for our customers. The Sany SCC8500 crawler crane was developed from start to finish by Sany engineers, using our own ideas and our own technological innovations.
"We categorically reject the claims made by Manitowoc and stand fully behind our market-leading products. Sany will respond actively to this legal action through appropriate legal measures to protect our own intellectual property.
"We will continue to bring innovations to market, and offer choices for our customers in North America and around the world."
Xiang isn't a man to back down when he feels Chinese companies are being unfairly blocked from the US. Last year, Sany launched a lawsuit against President Barack Obama, and regulator CFIUS, over a decision to block the sale of a wind farm site to Sany-affiliate Ralls. Sany added Obama to the lawsuit after he cited national security concerns to support the Cfius decision. Xiang, the Financial Times reported, called the regulators "petty scoundrels who can't be reasoned with," saying that "The US treats China like a hostile country. Whatever we do is deemed as endangering American national security."
Xiang commented later, "I believe that dignity is more important than money. It's more valuable than money to protect the dignity of both Chinese companies and Sany."
