Heavy lifting, and engineered transport specialist Sarens has deployed newly acquired Grove rough-terrain cranes at the construction site of INEOS Project ONE in Antwerp, Belgium.

The fleet includes four Grove GRT8100-1 cranes with a lifting capacity of 100t and one Grove GRT780 model rated at 80t.

These machines are now deployed to assist with transport, modular assembly, and precision installations at the European petrochemical investment project.

The cranes, built by Manitowoc at its Niella Tanaro factory in Italy, were shipped directly to Belgium for use in the ongoing development.

Manitowoc is supporting these units with parts, service, and maintenance via its service teams based in the Netherlands and global customer support operations.

Construction at Project ONE centres on an advanced ethane cracker, designed to convert ethane gas into ethylene.

The facility plans to use hydrogen created during the process as a lower-carbon fuel source for its furnaces.

Much of the project is being delivered using modular construction methods, with large components built offsite and transported to Antwerp by ship.

Some modules weigh up to 6,000t and measure as much as 50m long, 40m wide, and 60m high.

The facility will also contain storage tanks, an extensive pipe network, pumping systems, electrical distribution, pipe racks, roads, cable routes, and underground infrastructure.

Sarens is managing all lifting and transport operations at the site, including detailed road and sea transport, the modular assembly of large components, and the coordination of lifting activities.

The Grove GRT8100-1 has a 47m main boom and a bi-fold swingaway jib extendable from 10.1m to 17.1m, as well as a tilting operator cab and four onboard cameras for enhanced visibility and safety.

The Grove GRT780, which offers similar features, can travel with loads up to 15.2t on the hook.

Both models are equipped with Manitowoc’s Crane Control System and Sarens has specified the MAXbase variable outrigger system, which allows for flexible outrigger configurations.

The equipment is also fitted with Grove CONNECT, the telematics platform for remote diagnostics and maintenance planning.

Manitowoc Belgium and The Netherlands regional director Rolf Klooster said: “We sincerely thank Team Sarens for their continued trust in Grove technology and wish them every success on the INEOS Project ONE.

“With support from our teams in Italy and the Netherlands, we are proud to provide the equipment, service, and technical expertise needed to keep these cranes performing efficiently throughout the project.”
