Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC) has supplied the cranes to JIP, which have capacities up to 65t under the spreader and span 24.4m. The lift height of the cranes is one-over-six containers.

The cranes have been installed at the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), the first build, operate and transfer terminal in Saudi Arabia. RSTG has been designed to support Saudi Arabia’s economic growth, and handle the next generation of vessels, according to the terminal’s CEO.

RSGT is aiming to add an additional 45% of handling capacity, 1.5m TEU per annum, to JIP, making it the leading container port on the Red Sea. JIP already has 14 RTGs at work, including six Super Post-Panamax cranes.

“RSGT seeks to redefine the port container business in Saudi Arabia, leading and supporting the Kingdom’s ongoing programme of maritime and port expansion, now seen as the key driving force of economic growth,” said Aamer Alireza, RSGT CEO.

“Our terminal will undoubtedly bestow a new status on Jeddah, as we will be the only terminal in the Red Sea with the capability of handling the next generation of super-mega vessels of 13,000 TEUs and above.”
