Ten-year-old schoolboy Philip Moss of Warrington has persuaded UK crane rental company Ainscough to start up a Crane Spotters’ Club.

Young Moss wrote to company boss Martin Ainscough to say he was interested in cranes and had been watching some of Ainscough’s cranes working on a bridge behind his school.

“I think it would be a good idea if you would consider having a crane spotter club so that I could find out more about them,” he wrote.

Suitably impressed, Ainscough set about organising the club and now a full membership pack has been produced, complete with badge, calendar and car sticker.

Membership is free and anyone, child or adult, wanting to join should contact Danielle Ainscough at the company’s Wigan head office on (+44) 1257 473423.

“Obviously this is the first club of its kind and as yet we are unsure how popular it will prove,” said Martin Ainscough.

“Of course, if it really takes off we will have to invite Philip to be the first official club president,” Ainscough said, “because it was his idea.”
