Grove’s Wilhelmshaven factory has delivered its 500th GMK 3050, the 50t rated all-terrain that is currently the company’s best selling AT. The buyer was German crane rental company Schuch.

The GMK 3050 was introduced six years ago. The first 100 machines were delivered in 18 months. The last 100 took just six months to deliver.

Grove claims that it is one of the most manoeuvrable cranes in its class. A hydraulic offsettable jib can be offset under load to help the crane work in confined spaces. “It is a thoroughly good all-round performer,” said Deutsche Grove managing director Mike Lamb.

Liebherr and Dematic have responded to the success of the GMK 3050 with new 50t models of their own. Dematic’s new AC 50-1 is an upgrade of its AC 50. Liebherr’s LTM 1050/2 goes into production in February and will be exhibited at Bauma in April (CT Sept00, p20).

Grove has also taken an order from Siberian oil and gas company Surgutnestegaz or 10 units of the GMK 5100, for delivery in February.
